Some ideas to visit Seville with children

The variety for tourists and the wealth of culture, monuments and cuisine provided by the province of Seville will enable you to enjoy interesting experiences with all the family that will become unforgettable memories for all.

Adults and children can learn together about our past by taking a cultural tour in the city center of Seville, discovering the charm of Hispanic-Muslim architecture that is all around the city with any guided tour. In Seville province, one cannot skip visiting Santiponce, being almost compulsory to visit Itálica with its remains from the first Roman city founded in Hispania, which has one of the largest amphitheatres in the empire.

You can begin with a pleasant tour amid nature around the El Castillo de las Guardas Nature Reserve. Here, the little ones will be able to watch the fascinating sight of different species of animals roaming freely, entertaining shows with birds of prey and sea lions, or feed dwarf goats and pelicans from their own hand. In Guillena you can visit Seville’s Zoo, with over 150 species of animals and more than 300 species of flora.

One place you can’t miss is the Peñón de Zaframagón Nature Reserve, a privileged setting on the border of Coripe with the province of Cádiz in the Sierra Sur area, where you can see the largest griffon vulture colony in Andalusia.

One very entertaining possibility for the family’s little ones is provided by the Farm Schools found all over the province. In Espartinas, in the Cuna Farm School, they’ll learn to respect nature and make craft products with activities and games. In Los Miradores Hacienda in Mairena del Alcor, they will come into contact with
the world of horses, taking a close look at how they are cared for, their habitat, their diet and everything related to rearing this sensational animal, which is very much linked to the area’s traditions.

There are also many choices for older children to spend some exciting, lively days. In the province they’ll find marvellous natural settings to do sports and experience adventure, as well as theme parks and cultural and artistic tours where they can get to know part of our history and culture.

There are Farm Schools and Nature Classes all over the province, with excellent educational programmes about environmental awareness, such as those located in the Sierra Norte Nature Park, which provide a complete, attractive programme of activities like horse-riding, kayaking, hiking, climbing, etc., while they learn to look after the environment.

Other possibilities for experiencing nature and adventure are the haciendas and tourist complexes (in Gerena, Algámitas, Aznalcázar…) or the Hanging Forest in Bollullos de la Mitación, an exciting trail over bridges and walkways hanging in the hundred-year-old Pinar de la Juliana forest.

On the other hand, if you wish to spend a family day with amusements, parades and varied entertainment, without a doubt you should head for the Isla Mágica theme park in Seville. You can also choose an original and unforgettable visit to the Railway Museum in Roda de Andalucía with numerous mobile models, or to the José Luis Comellas Astronomic Observatory in La Rinconada to gaze at the stars, or else to Artemina in Villanueva del Río y Minas to watch craftspeople at work in situ.

To round off, spend a little time on yourselves, taste the delicious cuisine and excellent wines in the area in a pleasant, peaceful atmosphere while the children have fun with clown and puppet shows and activities. There are various establishments that provide this service in the province, such as the Torrepavas Cortijo in La Rinconada or the La Raza restaurant in the Seville’s María Luisa park.
